Kanye West‘s Season 5 collection offerings revealed a number of shifts from the prior season, all changes that were accentuated by the very different manner in which the clothing was presented. Clearly not happy with the cacophony that surrounded the Roosevelt Island combo presentation/performance art event, West was determined to bring the noise down this time around so the clothes could speak for themselves.
Vanessa Beecroft, responsible for the spectacle aspects of all his prior presentations, didn’t contribute to art direction this time. Instead, Adidas was listed on press credentials as presenting the show. Casting was handled by editor and stylist Carine Roitfeld, a longtime, steady supporter of West’s efforts. Exerting greater control over coverage, outside press were barred from the backstage area and even invited guests who arrived with cameras were turned away.
The clothes themselves also felt more relaxed. Gone were the hyper-feminine, body-con looks of prior seasons, replaced by loose-fitting denim, joggers and tops, all of which are in step with what West and his friends are wearing these days. West added his own personal stamp through a “lost hill” tagline and a lion insignia. The famous Adidas Originals Calabas joggers also appeared along with some new runners.
Whether any parts of this collection are on a buy-now schedule or who is actually producing the offerings is unknown.
