Known for creating quality garments with great attention paid to tailoring and detail, we’re entering into a period in fashion that Australian label Zimmermann can attack with zeal. For spring 2017, the label made the most of the exploding popularity of feminine looks with a collection unified by corset detailing as realized in boned micro skirts, corded bustier tops, and lace-up denim jeans.
According to creative director Nicky Zimmermann, the look of the collection was inspired by time he spent in underground nightclub in Sydney as a teen in the ’80s. “We were a bit isolated from fashion and music and the ’80s subcultures that were emerging elsewhere. So people interpreted them in their own way. We were bowerbirds, we couldn’t find the clothes that others could buy so we made things. We ripped up tutus, we stole dad’s shirts, we found old pieces of lace, we tied, we tattered, tangled and frayed,” explained Zimmermann.
It’s all very feminine, decadent pirate and is perfect for the bad bitches that brunch crew who adore Zimmermann.
