Further evidence that our alien foreparents landed first in Japan, have a look at the Kawaii Monster Cafe in Tokyo, set to open tomorrow in Tokyo. We sort of kid (not really) about the alien thing, the cafe is really meant to “capture the spirit that made Harajuku the most famous street fashion neighborhood in all of Asia, while at the same time creating a never-seen-before experience to overload the senses,” according to Tokyo Fashion. The cafe is staffed by five Monster Girls, each wearing a different costume as designed by Tokyo Diaries founding editor, Misha Janette. There are also five super colorful themed party rooms as designed by artist Sebastian Masuda, with accompanying food and drink as bright and colorful as the decor. Whether or not this is just a tourist trap that exploits Kawaii-culture in a cheesy way, we do not know, but at least from afar it looks quite amazing.
